TWO NEW REDS: Similar blends, different regions, different effect.
CHATEAU DU MOULIN ROUGE CASTILLON COTES DE BORDEAUX 2010: 60% MERLOT, 25% CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 15% CABERNET FRANC
A classic Bordeaux Rouge. The 30-acre vineyard of Chateau du Moulin Rouge, located near Saint Emilion, dates back to the 19th century. This wine expresses the character of the terroir of this region. Ruby colored with a fruity nose of dark berries and chocolate, the wine is well-balanced and medium-bodied. Soft earth notes linger on the velvety finish. Chateau du Moulin Rouge pairs best with roasts and hard cheeses. $13
CASTELL DEL REMEI ODA 2006: 55% MERLOT, 20% CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 25% TEMPRANILLO
Spicy and harmonious Spanish blend. Situated in the DO of Costers del Segre, 120 km northwest of Barcelona, Castell del Remei has been one of the pioneers of Catalan winemaking since 1780. In fact, it was the first Spanish winery to produce Cabernet and Semillon Blanc (traditionally Bordeaux varietals) and the first winery to age its wines in Catalonia. This Oda Tinto is aged for 12 months in a mix of new and used French and American oak. It expresses complex aromas of black currants, cinnamon spice, cedar, and blueberries. The wine is full-bodied, harmonious, and well-structured. Cassis, licorice, and a touch of caramelized fruit follow through to the long finish, making this a fantastic partner to rich meat dishes (red meat or duck) and rustic casseroles. $20
