Thursday Night Tasting
Birds are chirping, cherry blossoms are blooming, and people have already pulled out their short shorts to lay around in McCarren park. Spring is here, people!!! And tonight, 6-9 pm, we’re tasting four new wines perfect for the loveliest of seasons. It’s going to be a BEAUTIFUL weekend, so stock up, and don’t forget the moms in your life!
Reposo Blanco 2010
This organic blend of Gewurtztraminer and Muscat Blanc is one of our favorite whites we’ve tasted in the last few months. Aromatic and supple, fresh and complex, tangy and spicy- Reposo tastes like Spring, and what could be better than that!? $14
Baker Lane Rose of Syrah 2010
This biodynamic Sonoma Coast rose is rich with character- flowers, minerals, cranberries… and the finish is crisp and clean. The winemakers are a formiddable team- Stephen Singer (former wine director of Chez Panisse and former husband of Alice Waters) and Greg Adams (biodynamic wine guru). I forsee a long summer romance with this perfect pink sipper! $16
Domaine Pascal Aufranc Chenas
Chenas is a curious appelation- it’s technically Beaujolais, but on the Rhone side rather than Burgundy. 100% Gamay, with a striking minerality and a healthy dose of earthiness to balance out the pretty red fruit. A Beaujolais for burgers! $20
Domaine Grosbot Barbara Chambre d’Edouard 2009
For all you Saint-Pourcain lovers out there, this is the fuller-bodied cousin from a nearby vineyard in the magical Auvergne. A delicious blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay, this bottle has kind of an ugly label and we think that’s contributed to it’s slow sales… so we’ve lowered the price and we’re pouring it tonight to remind you not to judge a book by it’s cover.
