Time To Mix Up The Manischewitz Turkey Brine For Thanksgivukkah!

This will only happen once in our lifetime, in fact it won’t happen again for another 80,000 years!  This is a fun read with lots of great recipe ideas.    

Latkes topped with cranberry applesauce?  Sweet potato bourbon noodle kugel?  Brussels sprouts with pastrami and pickled onions?  Horseradish-spiked mashed potatoes?  Yes, please.

Holy cow, Thanksgiving is just ONE WEEK away! Time to think about what you’re thankful for, what to cook, and most importantly, what to drink! We have plenty of opinions on all three, especially the drinking part. And tonight, we aim to jump-start your holiday with an all-American tasting, 6-9 pm, of three wines that would be dynamite paired with your bird and all the fixings. We’ll have bread from She Wolf Bakery and cheese from Eastern District.

Qupe “Y” Block Chardonnay, Santa Barbara County, 2012

"I need a buttery Chardonnay for my mother-in-law!" Is a request we hear more often this time of year. Enter, Qupe. It’s round and vanilla laced but the oak is incredibly well-integrated and there is a vibrancy and loftiness that is more Burgundian in nature. An elegant and delicious Chardonnay that will appeal to the crankiest of palates. $24

Barnard Griffin Riesling, Columbia Valley 2012

Rob Griffin has been making wine, against all odds, in the Columbia Valley since the mid 1970’s. His creativity and dedication (what some call “hard headedness”) shows in all of his delicious wines. Riesling is often recommended in “Thanksgiving Wine Pairing” articles, and this off-dry bottle from Washing ton State is the perfect example of why. With notes of green apple, citrus, and exotic spices , and the most delicate sweetness on the finish, it lends itself well to all the myriad of dishes on the dining table. $13

Montinore Estate Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2011

This Demeter Certified Biodynamic beauty from Oregon is one of my favorite Pinot Noirs in the shop. The family run winery pays an astounding amount of attention to every detail in the wine producing process, from grapes to glass, and it really shows. Bold black cherry and red plum fruit with a little baking spice and savory smoke on the finish. Just as great with pie after the meal as it is with the turkey itself. $23

We agree, wholeheartedly.  But maybe until then while we try and finish up loose ends at work, and shop, and prep, and brine, we still need some wine!  For that we have a couple new values that just landed at Dandelion today.
CAPARZO SANGIOVESE TOSCANA 2010:  Easy-drinking, juicy red with bright cherry and blackberry fruit.  This Sangiovese blend from Tuscany is a killer choice for pizza or pasta take-out.  $11
DOMAINE SARRABELLE CROIX BLANCHE AOC GAILLAC 2009:  80% Duras and 20% Braucol, a wine we love for its undeniable French character… earth and minerals abound!  Made by 2 brothers, Fabien and Laurent Causse in Southwest France.  $14
