BRANGELINA WINE!

Chateau Miraval Rose, Provence 2012, $27

Hollywood’s most beautiful couple has made the most beautiful rose!  Somehow balancing superstar status, a big happy family, planning a massive wedding, and public service, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that they also own a working vineyard in Provence… but with the help of the renowned Perrin winemaking family, they’ve released their first vintage of wine! It’s soft, rich with red fruit character, and refreshingly dry on the finish, in the most beautiful package on the shelf.  We snagged a couple cases this year, and when they’re gone, they’re gone…  and trust us, you don’t want to miss out!

NEW BOX WINE* ALERT!  And I think it’s my favorite of all…
TRE PASSI ROSSO TOSCANO 2011 - The organic vineyards producing “tre passi” are located in central Tuscany near Castellina in Chianti.  The vines are growing in deep limestone-clay soils, producing a naturally rich and structured wine.  Ideal to serve with typical Italian food - carpaccio, cheese, hearty pasta dishes, roasted meats.  Also perfect for outdoor use - Easter egg hunts, picnics, the beach!, camping, tailgating… C’MON SUMMER!!!
*For those of you who are new to box wine, each box is 3 liters of wine which is equivalent to 4 bottles of wine.  The bag-in-box technology prevents oxidation and keeps your wine fresh “forever” (about 4-6 weeks once opened).  Due to its structure, weight, and shape, the box considerably reduces the carbon footprint of your glass of wine and lowers the cost of shipping, passing the savings on to you.  And, I have to mention, the quality of wine in boxes these days have greatly improved.  Give it a try!

Yesterday was the first day of FALL—so I had a summer BBQ to celebrate!  While I chopped the potatoes and marinated the pork, I sipped on our new Austrian Chardonnay, Werlitsch Morillon 2008.  I LOVED it.  Tons of bright acidity and mouth-drying minerality but with a long, round finish of stone fruit and citrus.  I didn’t want to share any it was so good… but I did, and everyone else loved it too!  Why didn’t I bring 2 bottles home???  All you Gruner fans should give this guy a try and see why Chardonnay is one of the noblest grapes of all.

Once dinner was on the table, we cracked another new addition to Dandelion, Bebame Red 2011.  A natural wine from California that is made from 93% Cabernet Franc and 7% Gamay.  An unusual, but successful blend!  A very expressive, pleasantly light red that was easy drinking.  Even my Pinot Noir-loving-wine-snob dad loved it!  ”Tastes like a great Pinot!”, he said.  Yeah, sort of.  It’s delicate with very subtle red fruit and earth notes.  Delicious.  What a great way to say ‘Adios!’ to the summer of 2012.

I’VE RARELY heard anyone talk about drinking rosé without mentioning the place where they drank it and how they felt there. The reported mood is inevitably sunny and the setting is a veritable summer cliché (sidewalk cafes, beaches at sunset). Where other wines might invite analysis or provoke introspection, rosé is consumed in a completely emotional context.

SUMMER WHITES

Join us tonight, 6-9 pm, as we taste some awesome new white wines under $20! Our friend Ariel will be here from Savio Soares Selections, and we’ll have cheese from ED!

Biotite Vinho Verde Portugal 2011

Our favorite Vinho Verde ever came back in stock this week, JUST in time to taste on this beautiful day! Biotite is crisp and vibrant and a tiny bit bubbly. It’s all we want to drink in the summer time. We recommend it for beach days, trips to the new pool, and waiting outside Roseland for Beyonce concerts. $16

Thiery Weber Gruner Veltliner, Austria 2011

In the case of this Gruner, bigger really is better. Thiery Weber gives us a whole liter of Austrian deliciousness. This crowd-pleasing white is medium bodied, with just the right balance of fruit and citrus-y acidity. And we love Austria’s commitment to the screw-top closure because it makes it so easy to get to the wine! $11

Mosel St. Riesling Germany 2010

The grapes for this sassy Riesling are painstakingly cared for… naturally cultivated, carefully pruned, and hand picked at the perfect point of ripeness. The result is a traditional German Riesling, with delicate fruit and white floral notes and a dry finish. $13

Ya’ll are rose crazy!!!  And we were on the hunt for some that won’t break the bank when you need quantity… like every weekend!

Here are 2 new roses that landed at Dandy this week and both cost only $11/bottle, and $9.90/bottle when purchasing a case!

CASA MARIOL ROSAT:  A Garnacha and Tempranillo blend from sustainable vineyards in Catalonia (Spain).  A bright-red shade of pink.  Herbaceous and fresh nose with a crisp and lingering finish… load up that cooler and call up some friends!

LE POISSON GRIS 2010:   A pretty and pale-pink wine from Tunisia!  Yes, that’s right, wine from North Africa… and it’s great.  A supple Grenache blend with a delicate and refreshing taste.  The label instructs us to “Eat fish.”, so grill some up, pop a bottle, and enjoy!
